The Banner of Hope

The Banner of Hope is created from 200 panels of red silk. On the banner, children from more than 80 countries have painted the names and ages of children who were killed in wars and in acts of terrorism since 1930.

The 200 panels have been sewn together into one powerful memorial for all those lost children. It takes 200 children to carry the Banner Of Hope. The Banner of Hope has been carried to many places around the world: Moscow, Washington, Berlin, Belfast, the United Nations in New York City, and unfurled on the Great Wall of China. In addition, the Banner was the centerpiece for the Children's Sabbath at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, and has been part of many peace marches.

It is our deep desire and hope that children who participate in the banner project will do all they can to promote peace everywhere on the planet. The Banner is a work in progress until all wars around the world finally end.

CATP spearheads an array of programs which empower children, on an International scale, to think constructively about peace, to express their ideas and feelings about peace, and to unite with children of other cultures to discover and reinforce mutual goals and areas of understanding. The programs, both consciousness raising and substantive, has resulted in the participation of thousands of children in more than 50 countries, and the formation of a cooperative network of 40 adult organizations worldwide. Many of these organizations represent politically opposing forces. Thirty-four peace trips have been made during the past twenty years.

The Banner of Hope through Check Point Charlie, Berlin. In the early years the foundation gave particular emphasis to pioneering highly successful programs between the United States and the Soviet Union. In 1999 the focus became the relationship between the United States of America and the Peoples Republic of China. In 2004, our focus is to get the Children's Declaration of Dependence signed by the leaders of all nations with nuclear weapons. We are planning a trip with an international group of former child Peace Prize Winners and those involved in Peace trips, to accompany a child from their country for this trip in 2004. Additionally we are working to have our Peace Club curriculum used by children throughout the world.
